American Cruise Lines, the largest cruise line in the United States, is seeking Captains (full time or part time) on our brand new ships which travel the U.S. on week long cruises. We offer over 30 unique itineraries that travel along the inland and coastal waterways of the East Coast, Pacific Northwest and Mississippi River. Each ship carries between 100 and 200 passengers under a US flag. Each ship is state of the art and equipped with the latest safety, navigation, and communications systems.
The Captain is a shipboard officer who will be responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel and adherence to company standards while representing the company in a professional manner with guests. Candidates must be meticulous and demonstrate operational discipline in all respects. Onboard, you will receive excellent private accommodations, with in-suite head, satellite TV, etc., spouses are welcome. This position is ideal for experienced/retired Naval or Coast Guard officers with command experience. In this role we are flexible with your schedule and want to make sure that we accommodate your needs.
American Cruise Lines offers comprehensive development programs to enhance skills and advance career growth. Living and working on board one of our small cruise ships allows rapid accumulation of sea time and refining of ship handling skills. American Cruise Lines is the only U.S. passenger vessel line offering recurrent simulator training at our own state-of-the-art ship simulator specifically designed for our Captains and Mates. The simulated bridge was designed to be a replica of an American Cruise Line bridge, integrating actual shipboard equipment wherever possible. Captains and Mates are placed in a realistic scenarios to examine decision making practices and hone skills.
Responsibilities:
The safety of the passengers, crew and vessel
Safe navigation of vessel
All docking, undocking, and maneuvering of vessel
Supervision and direction of Mate and Deckhands
Training of Mate and Deckhands
Ensuring vessel is maintained in safe operating condition
Administrative functions including creating logs and reports
Maintaining crew discipline
Qualifications:
Qualifications
Minimum of 100ton Near Coastal U.S. Coast Guard Master’s license
Command experience on vessels of similar size
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Must pass a pre-employment drug test
